The Nice Guys stars Hollywood heavyweights Russell Crowe (In his best role in years) and Ryan Gosling as Jackson Healy (Crowe) and Holland March (Gosling) as two private eyes with VERY different ways of doing things who are forced together when two different cases begin to merge. Jackson is working for a young woman Amelia who is being followed and harassed while Holland is hired to find popular porn actresses Misty Mountains, who was reported dead but was seen by the girls aunt days after. A strange series of events unfold as Jackson beats on March for following Amelia who March is following as she is a lead in the Misty Mountains case. However when Jackson is attacked by two men who are trying to track down Ameila he hires March to do some off the books investigating. As the duo join forces a web of lies begins to unfold which puts both men in the cross hairs.
The Nice Guys is balls out funny, and I don't mean in a cheap nasty comedy way, but in a well thought out kind of way which doesn't take away from the feel of the film or the well written crime caper script. Gosling and Crowe give outstanding performances as our lead detectives but this duo was really a trio with the outstanding performance from Angourie Rice who plays March's daughter Holly who wasn't just funny but really cemented herself in the film along side two of cinemas biggest leading men.
Director Shane Black has directed yet another amazing film. I'm a big fan of Black's previous films (if you haven't seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang....why not!!) and i even enjoyed the highly panned by the critics Iron Man 3. I am very excited to see is take on The Predator franchise in 2018 (this is still correct as of June 2016). The Nice Guys has great action, hilarious humour (love the drunken party antics of March) with the only real let down being the Amelia character over all. If you can see only one film this summer this would be my choice.
