It has been a little while since we last posted in the trailer section but what a film to come back with. From director Amat Escalante comes LOST IN THE NIGHT, an engrossing thriller that blends elements of Latin American cinema with shrewd social commentary on Mexican society and contemporary influencer culture.
Lost In The Night, which premiered at Cannes this year, stars Juan Daniel García Treviño (Narcos México), and Latin American influencer Ester Expósito, who has 27 million followers, and features a superb score by Stranger Things composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein.
Amat Escalante is known for casting non-professional actors in his films, and in 2020 he held an open audition to find actors for LOST IN THE NIGHT. “This is a film that has taken me a long time to make,” says Escalante, “where I'm trying new things and playing with different ways of telling a story of my interests in Mexico, in the form of a thriller and at the same time maintaining my personal vision.”
Check out the synopsis below:
Emiliano lives in a small mining town in Mexico. Motivated by a deep sense of justice, he searches for those responsible for the disappearance of his activist mother who was standing up for local jobs against an international mining company. Receiving no help from the police or judicial system, he finds a clue that leads him to the wealthy Aldama Family, where he meets a famous artist, his celebrity wife and their beautiful daughter. It's not long before he has a job at their home and becomes determined to uncover the secrets beneath the surface.
