This is the plot of Bastard more or less and it doesn't get any more exciting than that unfortunately as we are treated to an utter mess of a slasher film.
Now I am huge slasher film fan, it is the sub genre which got me into horror in the first place, but lets be honest here you need a decent story to make the film good and Bastard doesn't have this. The film felt all over the place with scenes which could have been made more suspenseful being way to short leaving n o room to get any kind of emotional connection (good or bad) to the cast of characters, a cast of characters who i personally thought had no substance in any way. There wasn't one person in this whole find I wanted to see survive this film and this isn't all about bad acting, this is about the lack of character building.
Our masked killer isn't any better who starts of with an impressive spine removal which then slowly turns into your everyday horror killings, with a mask similar to the one in The Hills Run Red.
On a positive note I loved the sound track, it reminded me of the old school video nasties era of horror and I get this is what the director of the film was looking to achieve. Visually the film looked good as well, I liked the gritty feel to it which makes it even more of a shame that the film just feel so flat.
Overall this film was a mess, the plot felt all over the place, scenes seemed rushed and for the first time ever I will say this probably needed an extra 15 minutes to build on the characters and motives a bit more. Personally I wouldn't bother with Bastard even if this is on the Horror Channel or Netflix I wouldn't rush to watch it.
