King of Fighters XIV is the latest installment of the King of Fighters series, an exclusive to PlayStation 4 title I may add, which has a Street Fighter IV style feel with so much more to offer. This is my first King of Fighters experience and this is a series I have seen about but never really tried (I'm not really a big beat em up game player). Directed by Yasuyuki Oda who previously worked on Street Fighter IV the game uses a 3D style fighting style on a beautifully designed 2D backdrop a style I actually really loved playing along with. The character desgins are brilliant each member of the roster having their own unique fight style and look and all part of several teams. I loved the syle of Kukai, a fighter who uses the power of sand, Billy Kane, the master of the pole and Choi Bounge, who pretty much looks like Freddy Kruger with bigger knife fingers, no seriously look at this picture: Even not knowing the back history of these characters it was easy for a fighting novice to get to grips with things here. I love the 3 on 1 style but you really need to try everyone to get a perfect team sorted, which isn't a bad thing but as I said I don't really know much about this set of characters enough to pick quickly. The button system is fine, i'm more of a button basher when it comes to games like this, however the characters have enough moves for a novice to start of button mashing before getting good, and I like this.
Overall King of Fighters XIV is a fun little game, one which I enjoyed playing much more than Street Fighter IV and the recent two Mortal Kombat games. It is very complex with so many move combos and charcter combinations to perfect before your can master the game. The character designs made this game for me from the off as well which is always a nice addition to a very good game. I would suggest trying this one out, after all if you want to know about these characters you always have google. Some exciting Marvel videogame news has hit today. Activision, in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment, is making Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 available digitally on the PS4 and Xbox One for the first time, these titles can be purchased separately or together in the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Bundle in Europe today via the PlayStation Store and on 28th July through the Xbox Games Store.
Featuring a cast of over 22 playable characters, the first Marvel: Ultimate Alliance lets players create their own teams of heroes from the Marvel Universe, or recreate their favourite existing ones, like the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four and more. Experience a story starring more than 140 legendary characters, including Captain America, Spider-Man, Thor, Loki, Wolverine, Doctor Doom, Ultron and many others. Customise and upgrade these mighty squads of champions to unleash upon the single-player campaign, or in cooperative and competitive online and local multiplayer for up to four players. Set within the climactic events of Marvel Comics’ Civil War story arc, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 throws players into the struggle for or against the infamous Superhuman Registration Act. The missions, challenges, and threats players face are affected by which side of the conflict they choose. Like its predecessor, the game lets players assemble and level up their own Marvel Universe dream teams from over 24 playable characters, each with specialised abilities that can be combined for amazing results. Play alone in single-player, or battle together in online and local co-op with up to four friends. I really enjoyed these games the first time around and personally am looking forward to trying these ones out myself. What are your thoughts? Let us know below. As the only Mighty not affected by a mysterious computer virus that's turned mechanized creatures berserk, it's up to you to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet
Mighty No.9 is the un-official follow up to the legendary Mega Man games, games which, along side the Mario games, defined the NES and SNES systems back in the day, but can this game reboot the love of the originals? kind of... I was never a huge platform lover, aside from Mario and Crash Bandicoot, so this was an interesting one to review. Visual wise Might No.9 is colorful and cartoon like and looks beautiful, the characters and bosses look good. The soundtrack is fun and keeps you engaged however it is the control system which I'm a little off about. The control explanation is a little confusing at points and I found myself a little lost with what to do. However as a whole Might No.9 is a very enjoyable game, the type of game you could jump in and out of when you have a few spare minutes to kill. This is the closest thing fans are going to get to a new Mega Man so rejoice and give it a go. Zombies are the hot ticket in not only TV but in video games as well. We all know this but i'm one of the small number of Horror fans who have never been a huge fan of zombies but lets be fair i have reviewed some terrible films over the last 6 years, but it is very rare i get given a videogame to review let alone TWO zombie games in a row. My first is Deadlight: Directors Cut for PS4 which has blown me away!
Set in an apocalyptic 1986, Deadlight tells the tale of Randall Wayne, an introverted and slightly paranoid survivor trying to rejoin his loved ones in a world torn apart by zombies. From the destroyed streets of Seattle, through the crumbled underbelly of the city’s sewers, and the remnants of a forgotten stadium, you’ll search for the haven known as the ‘safe point’. Through tense platforming and life-threatening zombie encounters, you must choose to use your few bullets to decimate the undead or utilize your surroundings to sneak past them and hide. Combat isn’t always the answer, especially against those known as ‘shadows’, the walking, undead remains of the human race. I'm picky when it comes to video games in general, I live and breath Final Fantasy and Fallout but many games tend to lose me very quickly. Deadlight did the rare thing and kept me hooked for DAYS. The game feels like a mix of The Walking Dead and the gameplay of Abe's Odyssey. It took me back to playing the Oddworld games with it's sidescroll style layout and the frustrating at times puzzles which are so very rewarding once you complete them. This is one of the best zombie games I have played since Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. The story is heartbreaking at times, the characters are well rounded and the fact the you have to SURVIVE instead of just shooting the living crap out of zombies. Deadlight is also a great jump into game when you have a spare 15 minutes to spare due to the multiple auto saves, which also helps when you keep dying on the same bloody puzzle over and over again. A great game which is definitely worth a buy! Indie Games are the most popular games on the market today and it is note surprising when you have games like Lumo popping up on your console. Lumo is a cute little game where you play as a young teen transported into a videogame world and is transformed into a baby wizard...just go with it.
This a a challenging puzzler full of room after room of puzzles which will keep you occupied for a very long time. It's design is sweet but has a hint of evil about the images in the background which I like. I found the controls a little slow for my liking however If you like a slow paced game, very much like the speed of FEZ then you will love this game, however I am a fast paced game kind of guy myself so I couldn't see myself playing it for a long period of time. This isn't to say that Lumo isn't worth a go, visually I was very happy and the game itself is fun. If you are a fan of puzzle games this is a perfect little game for you. When I was growing up I was always drawn to building games. I would spend hours on Rollercoaster Tycoon, tons of years playing games like Civilization and Sims till I had no time to play them (damn you working life). This is why I wanted to try RPG Tycoon from Skantanic Studios. Created by one man RPG Tycoon has all you love about the tycoon games we are all used to with the added appeal of Fantasy.
The game has a very retro style which reminds me of Civilization 3 mixed with 8-bit. I was drawn into the game very quickly, I love how the game flows and the hero aspect of the game. You must hire heroes to live in your town, complete quests, help settlements and even guard your taverns, but the aspect which I really thought was a good touch was the epic quests which has a dice game element to it. Think the classic choice your path adventure books. The game is entertaining, I am happy you can rename your heroes (who wants the keep the name Robert the terrible) and the look of the game is quaint. My only slight annoyances were the bloody box in the bottom left hand corner, which you can't get rid of and The fact you can't find your heroes very well. If it had the same button, like on Rollercoaster Tycoon, where you could go straight to your hero that would make the game much easier to navigate. But this is a minor thing. Overall the game is really entertaining and has an addictiveness to it which kept me playing for literally hours. A must buy if you enjoy building games. Remember those days when you spent days playing games like ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON and games of that type? Well Skatanic Studio's have gone back to those days of retro with the very retro 8bit style Tycoon game RPG TYCOON. Start with a single plot of land and limited funds with which to hire the services of your starting Heroes before sending them on over 30 quick and 60 epic quests that, should they be successful, will see the fame of your kingdom grow. This fame in turn attracts settlers from surrounding towns who will be looking to spend money in the shops and on services you add to your kingdom. Watch those coffers begin to fill – at least for as long as you keep those settlers happy, so don’t forget to increase its ambience with some well placed trees or decorative items. Who doesn’t like a fountain? You won’t be alone in your ventures as competing AI governed kingdoms will also be vying for the highest score and to be awarded the title of ‘Greatest Kingdom in All the Land’ Check out the trailer below and keep your eyes open for a review of the game coming soon. I have a HUGE love for the RPG genre, from my days of playing Final Fantasy 7 and Suikoden on PS1, to games such as Skyrim and Fallout 3 on PS3 to Harvest Moon and well basically all the main Pokemon Games on the Gameboy and DS consoles, i love pretty much all of them out there, so when i saw the trailer for Fantasy Life on 3DS i almost had a fit of excitement. This excitement grew once i began playing it. As a grown arse adult i can hear many a person out there calling me a huge kid and quite frankly...i am and you can deal with it. Fantasy Life has all the aspects of Final Fantasy and Harvest Moon, all mixed together in one amazingly thought out game. you can pick and switch between different job types like Cook where you learn to forage for food so you can make top of the range dishes, you can make your own armour and clothing with the tailor and black-smithing job classes and you can even be a fisherman....okay maybe not all the classes are that great but as a whole the job classes reminded me of the early days of Final Fantasy and the feel of the game at times is the exact same feel you get while building you farm on Harvest Moon. The quests are fun, and when you have played the game for a decent amount of time you will be able to visit other villages, towns and cities so the game is so much bigger than the before mentioned Harvest Moon games. The one slight niggle is that th games dialogue and character naming is a little juvenile and is better suit to a game that is played by younger plays, and this is a shame as the game is really for an older age group (i.e early teens) really. If you love the SNES days of Final Fantasy and the cute everyday living style of Harvest Moon then you will LOVE this game. A great gift for Christmas too. |
